Tackle your to-do list

If you’re planning to list your home in the spring, now’s the time to start preparing. The spring market is the hottest, busiest, most competitive real estate season of the year. You want your home and property to look their absolute best.

How do you get your home ready to list?

Ask that question now, not two weeks before you go on the market. Here’s a handy checklist to get you started:

  • Does the exterior need painting?

  • Are there structural repairs that need to be made?

  • Any leaking pipes or broken window panes?

  • What about plaster cracks or missing bath tiles?

  • Any evidence of mold or mildew?

  • Are the yard and garage free of debris?

  • Any closets or shelves need de-cluttering?

  • Any rooms need fresh paint?

Focus on the buyer’s first impression

The minute or two that a buyer spends pulling up to your house, parking the car, and walking to the front door is critical. Most buyers know if they’re interested in your home before they even open the front door.

Translate that wisdom into getting your home market-ready. Focus on the landscaping, the front door, and the condition of the walkway and driveway. Fix cracks, stain a weathered door, clear the area of unattractive debris. Emotions play a big role in home purchases. You want that potential buyer to fall in love with your home.

Getting ready to list can be overwhelming

Knowing where to focus your time, attention, and resources is imperative. We can help you create a list of changes and enhancements that make a difference in the sell-ability of your home—and we’re familiar with those that don’t. No point in wasting time and money on items better left for your buyer.

staging your home to sell

To stage or not to stage

Most real estate experts agree that staging can benefit every home on the market, from an entry-level condo to a luxury residence. Staging helps the prospective buyer to visualize their furnishings in your home and not feel like they’re invading your personal space. Stay tuned for more on staging. We’re covering the topic in greater detail in next month’s newsletter.

In the meantime, give us a call if you plan to put your house on the market. We’d love to talk through the changes and repairs that will generate the most benefit when you list next spring—or anytime in 2020.
